Maddie ( or Madeleine if you’re my mum) Lee (b. 2001, Whitley Bay) is a London based painter and printmaker. She recently graduate from Camberwell College of Arts BA Painting with first class honours, and currently works as a studio assistant at Sonsoles Print Studio in Peckham. Her work seeks to reflect the fleeting nature of memory and its complexity through painterly abstraction and photography. Working between the expression of ink and paint and the control of archival images processed through the medium of screen-print and photo transfer, she aims to find a balance between being introspective while simultaneously letting the influences of the wider world into her practice (for example, themes such as nature, human connection and femininity.) She wants others to have the opportunity to engage in their own internal dialogue with the work; an audience may see something for themselves in the imagery, something familiar and comfortable, domestic and intimate.
